To Jubilee ….. and Beyond!

Well, at first it looked pretty Un-Seasonal!

but I had seen something at

Hooked on Needles

http://www.hookedonneedles.com/2009/10/ma-ingalls-half-granny-crocheted-shawl.html

(complete with a good video tutorial)

why not take a look …. I did and it  made me want to get started Rapid!

and so I did …..

and off the hook came …..

B L A N K E T  :0)

well, once the gorgeous Granny Stripe was finished and I had done

my oooohs and arrrhhhhs,

something had to happen!

So, looking into my left over Christmas present bag of yarn I decided to try

Lucy’s ripple. I had tried this ages ago but for some reason it just didn’t seem to

work out, but looking at so many other bloggers blankets I thought “It must

be ME! So lets have another go!”

I am so glad I did, even though I have run out of Lucy’s hot colours,

I think it will be rather nice when it is further under way.

xx

Just before starting the ripple I used some of the yarn in a pram blanket, it is not

very big …. but prams aren’t very big these days!

I decided to do Nana squares from Michelle at The Royal Sisters blog

http://theroyalsisters.blogspot.com/

it may be small, but very satisfying to do :0)

and I’m sure it will be just about the right size for today’s small prams,

………….

not like the Rolls Royce that my babes were in …..

“It’s quite simply the Rolls Royce of prams, Balmoral is the original coach-built pram.

Hand-sprung chassis, cushioned with leather suspension straps and handspoked wheels are just a few features of the Balmoral Collection. Handmade in the UK.”

http://www.silvercross.co.uk/heritage-collection/Balmoral-pram/

Yep, they just don’t make them like that any more!

Well, actually they do, but I couldn’t

afford the price tag …. mine had been second hand anyway!

Good to know that they are still making them though ….

Enjoy your happy crafty days (or evenings!)

PS …..

I have just come back from town and guess what?

My beautiful Silver Cross Rolls Royce

has just been show cased ……

in

the

museum!!!!

I don’t suppose it is mine – just one like it :0)

Time moves on!

Decopatch Gallery

Standard

Welcome!

to my little decopatch Gallery.

Each picture is worked on canvas and is of a particular place ….

places that hold special memories for me …

So without further ado here is

The Derbyshire Level …

I love leaning on a gate and this one has lots of memories for me

-0-0-0-

the next one is special because it is the first time Bella went to the seaside ….

the sand dunes at Christchurch beach

-0-0-0-

the next two are really part of the same walk, a very big favourite of mine

the falling down dry stone wall makes a welcome stopping place,

a flask of coffee and a cookie,

then carry on the walk to ….

The Bluebell wood

 ….. I had better explain!

First of all, the idea of this kind of design was inspired by the picture Lucy has

on her mantlepiece, I think it is from an artist in New Zealand. Her work is

based on the old fashioned Test Card that used to appear on the television screen,

and is worked in pastels and watercolour.

Mine is decopatch and is a continuation of the path from the dry stone wall ….

walk along to the gate  and pass the small trees,

the blue in the circle is the carpet of Bluebells,

some trees were still coming out of being winter trees,

and the starry sky …. well whether it is night or day, the bluebells would still be there

waiting for visitors just like me!

I hope you like my “art” gallery! Thank you for visiting :0)

I can’t say just how much I love this …..

it’s pretty edging …..

it’s strokeability …….

I don’t suppose Lovely Lucy of the famous Attic24 will ever find

my humble abode in Blogland, but if ever she did accidentally stumble

across us then we would say a loud and resounding

THREE CHEERS FOR LUCY!

she, without knowing me, has given me hours of pleasure in happy hooking :0)

anyone of my era will remember the tv show

“I Love Lucy”

well, that says it all!

Quiet/Busy Book …. the end of the story!

Standard

There are so many ideas for these wonderful books out there in Blogland, and most of my pages

were my own take on some of these ideas, so I thought I would add a few more today and then

perhaps one day put all the pages together as thumbnails.

so here up first is the …..

Basket of fruit ….

(I’m sorry about all the photos! I know … not very good )

But anyway,

the apple and pear are fastened with large press studs,

the banana with a hook and bar

and the lemon fastened with velcro ……

Undo them all and put them back into the basket!

(I did think after that a little purse could have been attached in the basket with money to buy the fruit)

The Overalls …..

Dungaree fasteners,

a tape measure in the top pocket,

a tractor picture hiding in a secret pocket

and a wallet with  press studs to fasten, and buttons to slide up and down, hides in the front muff pocket.

Apparently the tape measure is a huge success :0)

these pages encourage fine motor skills

These next two pages go together …..

an I-Spy page and “Can you find?

These were very popular pages right from day one,

encourages simple observation, language development and adult participation

0-0-0-0-0-0

other pages were more basic …. zips, weaving, and an abacus.

I am quite happy if anyone wants to use any of my ideas to make their own book.

All in all it takes a huge amount of time, costs quite a lot of money …..

BUT the end of the story is …..

IT WAS WORTH IT ALL :0)

I hope you think so too!

Bye for now XX

Blanket L O V E!

Standard

Oh Yes!

Yes Indeed! I have caught it ….

that all consuming hooking bug,

and I love it and am so happy to be completely captivated by it :0)

My last Granny stripe was completed today, oh me or my ….. now I know that “skippity doo da”  feeling for myself :0)

I have seen Lucy dancing around her “TaDah!” moments and, though it isn’t time for that yet, I still feel so

excited about it,

well here, take a look and see!

Isn’t it scrumptious?

Now, I know that every crochet-holic out there has already been there, done it,

and got the Tshirt, everyone seems to be inspired by Lucy, but this is MINE, ALL MINE : 0)

It was about 40 years ago (I know I’m knocking on a bit!) when I first learnt to crochet, but

then it was just cotton doillies – not very man friendly, and a house can only have so many doillies!

THEN, when I started blogging and found Lucy http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/

and lots of other lovely crochet blogs I started thinking that

THIS WAS FOR ME!

I have even loved this part

sewing in the ends, which I was not looking forward to, now I just have to decide on a colour

for the border …..

BUT the fever continues! I have all of this left!

Another Blanket!!  YES!

This was my Christmas present  – all 17 of Lucy’s colours from Masons of Abingdon £25.50 Bargain!

http://www.masonsneedlecraft.co.uk/

I feel like a child in a sweet shop given her first pound coin to buy whatever she liked (perhaps you need

more than a pound these days!)  I keep seeing all kinds of lovely Blanket ideas …….

I just need to decide ….. what a nice decision to have to make :0)

One last look ….

(I can’t stop looking at it, stroking it, snuggling it!)

Thank You for your patience : 0)

for the LOVE of yesterday ….. and to eternity

VALENTINES DAY …..

has different meanings for different people, at different times and in different places.

Hearts were everywhere yesterday,

chocolate hearts,

Two hearts chocolate Royalty Free Stock Photo

balloon hearts,

patchwork hearts and crocheted hearts –

crochet-heart-garland-3

http://www.skiptomylou.org/2009/01/28/crochet-heart-garland/

but then there is a whole year ahead and I wonder what will be remembered?

The chocolates will have been eaten,

the balloons popped …..

but memories last ….

Something has remained a memory to me since I first saw it,

I wonder if anyone else remembers?

Did you read the book, or see the film ……

“Carve her name with Pride”

where Virginia McKenna plays 23 year old Violette

I saw the film in 1960 and have remembered the poem ever since ….

The love that I have is all that I have

and the love that I have is yours,

The love that I have of the life that I have

is yours and yours and yours,

A sleep I shall have, a rest I shall have

but death will be but a pause,

For the peace of my years in the long green grass

will be yours and yours and yours.

http://www.violetteszabo.org/

Tania, her daughter, wrote a book about her mother Violette Szabo called

“Young, Brave and Beautiful”

unfortunately it is sold out but you can read it on line at:

http://www.authonomy.com/

They died  heroic deaths together,

and we now live in the peace that they paid the price for.

But the greatest and supreme love ever shown to mankind was on Calvary,

Cross In The Dark

where peace with God was purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ

for all who are truly repentant and turn to Him.

Heart love that goes on into eternity.
